Valentines Day wasn't so lovely for the Colorado Avalanche. First, fan favorite and Avs legend, Peter Forsberg retired after a 2 game comeback. Forsberg retired due to a nagging foot injury. That wasn't the only thing that went wrong for the Avs on Monday.
The red-hot Calgary Flames came into Denver and gave the Avalanche a good ol country ass whoopin. The Avs got smacked down 9-1 and this game was over before the puck even dropped. The loss kept the Avalanche 14th in the Western Conference. It is a shame that Forsberg couldn't have played last night to receive the appropriate sendoff from the fans. There is no way in hell Forsberg could have saved the Avs from the beatdown they received, but it would have been the right way to go out.
Some Avalanche media types are saying this was the lowest point in franchise history. With this season lost, could it be the right time to can coach Joe Sacco and look for someone to fire up this young team and fanbase?
