In something that I don't think anyone ever saw happening, not only this year but ever, the Big XII conference looks to be on the brink of folding. In a report just released by www.orangeblood.com Nebraska's board of regents has approved a move to the Big Ten conference. While formal invitations haven't been received it is persumed that both Nebraska and Missouri will receive invitations to join the Big Ten. Now that in and of itself won't kill the Big XII but this will. The same website is reporting that the Pac 10 has extended offers to the following schools: Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma st, Texas A & M, Texas Tech, and Colorado. And that those 6 schools will accept those invitations. This would for a 16 team super conference in the Pac 10 will some big time power house schools.
My feelings on this, If the Big Ten can someone convince Notre Dame to come as well and make it a 14 team conference this will be great. Both Nebraska and Missouri add to the academic side and athletic side to the conference. As for the Big XII I dont understand why all of these schools want to leave but they do for some reason. I know the Pac 10 has expressed interest in forming their own network which can be very lucrative. However, football wise, this make it the toughest conference in the country. With the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, and USC in one conference is flat out ridiculous. They will overtake the SEC as the toughest conference football wise in the country. How the schedules would play out is yet to be seen but it will definantly change the landscape of collegiate athletics for good.
