In the battle for the Reds fifth starter, Mike Leake has been named the guy to round out the rotation. Leake was the Reds first round pick, 8th overall, in the 2009 draft. Leake beat out left hander Travis Wood and the Cuban Missile, Aroldis Chapman. What makes this amazing is the fact that Leake has not pitched a single inning in the minor leagues.
This spring, Leake appeared in 6 games, 18 innings, starting two of those games. Leake went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 16 hits, four walks and 10 strikeouts. Leake should be making his Major League debut on April 11 against the Cubs. For more information, check out the article from the Cincinnati Reds.
