Miami hockey Head Coach Enrico Blasi has made his choice to replace departed assistant coach Chris Bergeron who left last week to take the Head Coaching position at Bowling Green. Blasi has tabbed Nick Petraglia the man for the job. Petraglia a Miami alumni who served as a back up goaltender at the turn of the century has been apart of the Miami program for the better part of a decade. He served as a graduate assistant after his playing days were done, and then served as a volunteer assistant for three seasons. The past 3 seasons he served as Miami's director of Hockey operations. Coach Blasi made the point to want to keep things within the family and the familiarity Nick brings with the players and the direction the program is heading seemed to be a big factor in the decision. Nick will be in charge of on ice coaching and will do the bulk of the recruiting.
Also announced was that current assistant coach Brent Brekke was promoted to Associate Head Coach.
For me personally it came as a little bit of a surprise as I thought they would go with a more offensive minded assistant but you can't go wrong with Nick. He is extremely familiar with the program and the inner workings of the "brotherhood". Having served as Coach Blasi's right hand man the last few seasons it does make sense that he gets this opportunity.
