Pictures from Sunday's Miami vs Michigan Regional Final.
"The Brotherhood" punch their ticket for Motor City Madness
In an incredible hockey game, that lasted around 4 hours, Miami University defeated the University of Michigan, 3-2 in double overtime. The victory gave Miami the NCAA Midwest Regional championship, and a ticket to the Frozen Four in Detroit. This is the second straight trip to the Frozen Four for Miami.
In a weekend filled with upsets throughout the NCAA hockey tournament, Miami was able to do enough to avoid the upset bid by Michigan. Miami got the scoring underway with a power-play goal by Pat Cannone, 12:08 into the game. Michigan tied the game, a little over a minute later on a goal by David Wohlberg. The two teams were deadlocked at 1 heading into the 2nd period.
The start of the period didn't go the way the Redhawks had planned, as Wolverines defenseman Chad Langlais scored on the powerplay, 49 seconds into the period to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead. Cannone struck again for the Redhawks, beating Wolverines goalie Shawn Hunwick, in a mad scramble in front of the net to tie the game at two.
The game stayed tied through the 3rd period and into the first overtime period. However, the deadlock and the Michigan hearts were broken, on a goal from Alden Hirschfeld, 1:54 into the 2nd overtime, sending the Miami bench and Miami cheering section into a frenzy. Miami did survive a scare, with the help of the referee, as Michigan appeared to have scored the game winner in the first overtime. Michigan's Carl Hagelin fed Kevin Lynch the puck and Lynch put it past Knapp. However, referee got a little whistle happy and blew the play dead before the puck went into the net. The whistle was blown for a high-sticking penalty on Miami's Joe Hartman. The whistle should not have blown and play should have continued until Miami had possession of the puck. Miami did survive another scare about 12 minutes in, when Michgian forward Matt Rust blasted a shot off the crossbar.
A big shout out goes out to Miami goalie Connor Knapp. Knapp made an astounding 55 saves in the game, as he was under siege throughout the 3rd period and the first overtime. Knapp made the big saves when he had to. Hunwick also played extremely well, making big save after big save. A lot was made fun of Hunwick's height, considering he barely can see over the crossbar when he is standing up, but in all seriousness, Hunwick stood tall and gave Michigan a chance to advance to the Frozen Four again.
I am very proud of Miami, as this team has had to overcome obstacle after huge obstacle. As Scott and I discussed on the long car ride home, we know how much this win means to the program and the coaching staff, as we have never seen a coaching staff so excited and ecstatic after a victory. The "Brotherhood" once again banded together, as they have all year, and have made the trip to the Frozen Four for the second straight year. Keep up the amazing work Rico and lets bring a championship back to Oxford!!!! Stay tuned for pictures from the tournament to be posted on the blog as soon as we are able to upload them.

Miami vs Michigan: Part IV
In game one Miami took care of business and beat Alabama-Huntsville 2-1. In game two Michigan disposed of Bemidji St. 5-1 setting up the 4th meeting of the year between Miami and Michigan. Miami leads the season series 2-1 but Michigan won the most recent contest 5-2 last weekend in the conference tournament.
I would expect a very intense match up and would give the slight edge to Miami. They are the deeper team and are extremely talented. They are on a mission and did what they had to to win their opening round game. Michigan is playing well but looked flat against Bemidji tonight. Would expect a rocking crowd at the Allen County War Memorial at 8 PM EST tomorrow.
Prediction:
Miami 3-2!
Will post pictures on Monday, having a great time in Ft. Wayne.

NCAA Hockey Midwest Regional Preview
Well the NCAA hockey tournament is underway and it definitely hasn't disappointed! #2 overall seed Denver got bounced in game 1 yesterday 2-1 by RIT. In the same East Regional the #2 seed there Cornell got blown out by #3 seed New Hampshire 6-2.
Today starts the Midwest Regional where #1 overall seed Miami begins their quest to return the the Frozen Four. They will match up against the #4 seed in the region Alabama-Huntsville in game one in Ft. Wayne. Game 2 will feature Michigan against Bemidji St. who was a Frozen Four participant last year.
Game 1:
Miami vs Alabama-Huntsville
The talent levels in this game, aren't even close. Miami is by far the deepest team in this tournament. However they are not playing their best hockey of the year at this point of the year. UAH had to win their conference tournament, the CHA, to get into the tournament. Which they did and are the only team in the field with a record below .500 at 12-17-3. UAH does feature solid goaltending from Cameron Talbot who boasts a 2.62 GAA and a 92% save percentage with a record of 12-17-3. He has started every single game for UAH this season. UAH's top scorers are Cody Cambell and Andrew Coburn both with 22 pts.
As for Miami they come into the tournament stumbling in their last 5 going 3-2 in those games. Big question mark for them is who will be the guy they turn to between the pipes. Miami features two stellar goaltenders in Cody Reichard, 18-4-3 record 1.79 GAA 92% save percentage, who is a Hobey finalist as well as POY in the CCHA and Connor Knapp, 9-3-4 record 1.87 GAA and 92% save percentage, who has been playing extremely well this year and was a finalist for the World Junior team roster. Miami has 3 players with at least 40 pts and 8 players with at least 20 pts. Miami is lead by Senior Forward Jarrod Palmer who has 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points, Junior Forward Andy Miele with 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 pts, and Junior Captain Forward Tommy Wingles with 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 pts. Miami has tremendous talent and wonderful offensive depth and with roll 4 lines deep. With all of this offensive talent they boast the best team defense in the country only allowing a minuscule 1.85 Goals against per game.
For UAH to win they need to get remarkable goaltending. Miami is gifted in several areas. UAH must score first and try to limit their penalties.
For Miami to win they need to play their game. Keep it simple and do what they are suppose to. Miami returns 18 of 20 skaters from a team that was in the title game last year so they have experience and knows what it takes. The need to get solid goaltending and score the first goal. The longer they let UAH stick around the harder it will be for them.
Prediction: Miami 4-0
Game two:
Michigan will be taking on Bemidji St. in game two. Michigan is playing the best they have all year at the right time. Bemidji, on the other hand, stumbled down the stretch and has had two weeks to think about it. Both teams are tournament tested and know what it takes. Bemidji is quick and likes to play in transition. Bemidji is lead by Junior Forward Matt Read with 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 pts. They have 7 guys with 20 or more pts. In net they are lead by Sophmore Dan Bakala who has a 19-7-3 record with a 2.27 GAA and a 91% save percentage. For Michigan they have road the hot hand of Junior Walk on goal tender Shawn Hunwick. Hunwick is filling in for injure goal tender Brian Hogan who got hurt in their final regular season series. Hunwick, in 9 games this year, has a 7-2 record and a 1.85 GAA with a 91% save percentage. Michigan is lead by Carl Hagelin with 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 pts. Michigan has a balanced offense 7 guys having 20 pts or more.
I expect this game to be a track meet. Both teams are quick and like to get up and down the ice. Michigan is playing with extreme confidence after their current run to make the tournament. They both are great in transition. However, Michigan is the more talented team. With the way they are playing and if Hunwick can give them the consistent goaltending he has been they should win.
Prediction:
Michigan 6-4
That would set up a regional Final rematch of last weeks CCHA semi-final between Miami and Michigan. Michigan won the most recent match up 5-2 to get their way into the tourney. However Miami swept Michigan in Ann arbor earlier in the year. Miami would love a rematch between the two and if it happens I give Miami the edge. Miami is motivated and determined to get another chance at a National Championship.
Prediction:
Miami 3-1
Happy watching! Me and Chris will be in Ft. Wayne for the regional and will give a full report. Make sure to check back for updates!

And The latest potential football player to enter the Cincinnati Bengals rehab center is......wait for it....wait for it.....yes Adam "pacman" Jones!
Adam Jones agent says 3 teams have expressed "great interest" and the Bengals are one of them. I mean I know they have had some relative success recently bringing in guys with troubled pasts and having them perform but this may be a stretch.

More evidence Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow were cuddle buddies
Good lord, Florida coach Urban Meyer has lost it. During Tim Tebow's tenure at Florida, Meyer would defend Tebow before he would defend his own family. Apparently, that has not changed at all. Meyer verbally berated an Orlando Sentinel reporter over a quote from Florida receiver Deonte Thompson. Here is the story from Fox Sports.
Hits to the head are a new NO-NO in the NHL
The NHL players' union executive board voted to accept a new rule, outlawing hits to the head on "unexpecting" players. Here is the story from Yahoo. Great job by the NHL and the NHLPA. Except for the fact this should have been taken care of a lot sooner.
Mowbray canned as Celtic manager
Celtic FC has canned their manager, Tony Mowbray, less than a year into his tenure at Celtic Park. Mowbray has not lived up to the expectations put on him by the Hoops. Mowbray was canned after the Bhoys were dumptrucked by St. Mirren, 4-0, leaving them 10 points behind Glasgow rivals Rangers, thus dashing their Scottish Premier League hopes.
Former Celtic great and captain, Neil Lennon will take over as manager for the rest of the season.

Bryant signing one of 5 offseason moves that don't make sense
I am glad that a national publication felt the same way I did. From the get go, I wanted the Bengals to sign Terrell Owens. Every time I mentioned that, people would look at me like I had 5 heads. At this point in time, Terrell Owens would have been a better fit than Antonio Bryant. Obviously, I don't want Bryant to fail, but I really would have like to see Owens in orange and black. It would have been the perfect short term fix. Pick up a wide receiver in the draft and boom, we should be good to go.
According to Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News, the Bengals signing Antonio Bryant over Terrell Owens was one of the five offseason moves that don't make sense.

Wolverines extend the streak to 20
The Michigan Wolverines had to win the CCHA tournament to make the NCAA Hockey Tournament. What was on the line? The streak. Michigan had made the NCAA Hockey Tournament 19 consecutive years and they were in SERIOUS danger of missing out on the tournament this year.
After a surprising sweep of in-state rival Michigan State, Michigan headed to Joe Louis Arena on a mission. Their first target, the Miami Redhawks, ranked #1 in the country for most of the season. Michigan had never lost to Miami in the CCHA tournament. That continued as Michigan dominated the Redhawks from the opening face off. Michigan won the game 5-2 as they set up a match up with Northern Michigan for the CCHA tournament title.
Michigan was able to pull off another upset over Northern Michigan, as Louie Caporusso scored twice to lead the Wolverines to a 2-1 victory. Michigan goalie, Shawn Hunwick once again stood tall making 17 saves in the victory. With the victory, the Wolverines were once again CCHA tournament champions, and once again, headed to the field of 16.

Seguin and Hall battle for top prospect spot
A battle is brewing between two of the Ontario Hockey League's best. Windsor Spitfires forward Taylor Hall and Plymouth Whalers forward Tyler Seguin are battling for the top spot on the International Scouting Services top prospects list. Hall has held the spot for a while. Seguin just took the top spot in the March Rankings.

Pike and Gilyard work out for Patriots
According to Joe Fortenbaugh and Wes Bunting of the National Football Post, the New England Patriots are scheduled to work out Cincinnati Bearcats studs, WR Mardy Gilyard and QB Tony Pike. I would be bummed to see those guys playing every Sunday in Foxboro.
I would love to see both Gilyard and Pike playing Sundays down at Paul Brown Stadium. I highly doubt that will be the case as both had strong Pro Days. Stay tuned to the NFL draft, April 22-24, to see where Gilyard, Pike and other Bearcats are drafted.

Injury bug bites Josh Hamilton again
Josh Hamilton has once again been attacked by the injury bug. This time, its a possible root canal infection. Now as everybody knows, I absolutely love Josh Hamilton, and I was bummed when the Reds traded him, but the trade for Edinson Volquez keeps looking better every day.
The poor guy has fought back from so much, but keeps getting beat down by the injury bug. He has missed time already this spring training with a bruised left shoulder. Hamilton was hit on the hand by a pitch in a game on Monday. X-rays were negative, as it was just a bruise. Hamilton is currently batting .444 with a home run and two RBI. If Hamilton can stay healthy for at least 5 minutes, he has a chance to have another great season.

Center field getting interested for Reds
Mark Sheldon, MLB.COM
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Drew Stubbs' less-than-savory numbers heading into Tuesday -- 2-for-20 (.100) with seven strikeouts -- had reporters descending on his locker in the morning asking questions.
It didn't have the Reds brass scurrying with concern, yet.

CCHA conference tournament down to 4: Miami, Michigan, Northern Michigan, and Ferris State.
Miami may of taken 3 games to knock off instate rival Ohio St. but they still come into the weekend as the team to beat. Michigan may be the hottest team of the group having swept Michigan St. on the road 6-0 and 5-3, riding on the shoulders of back up goaltender Shawn Hunwick. While Northern Michigan is again making their patented second half run. Northern has made it to the final four of the conference tourney 7 of the last 8 seasons. Ferris state on the other hand stumbled down the stretch but after a bye in the first round of the playoffs they came together to sweep a surging Nebraska-Omaha team 3-1 and 3-2 in OT. The games will be this Friday at 4:35 PM on Fox Sports Detroit pinning Ferris St. against Northern Michigan. The night cap at 8:05 will be Miami facing off against Michigan on the big 10 network.
Check back later in the week for an updated Pairwise standings and a preview of this weekends games.

Tiger announces PGA return
Just as I suspected, Tiger Woods will be returning to the PGA at Augusta National for the Masters. Here is the statement from Tiger:
"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta.
"The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played.
"I have undergone almost two months of inpatient therapy and I am continuing my treatment. Although I'm returning to competition, I still have a lot of work to do in my personal life.
"When I finally got into a position to think about competitive golf again, it became apparent to me that the Masters would be the earliest I could play. I called both Joe Lewis and Arnold Palmer and expressed my regrets for not attending the Tavistock Cup and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. I again want to thank them both for their support and their understanding. Those are fantastic tournaments and I look forward to competing in them again.
"I would also like to thank the Augusta National members and staff for their support. I have deep appreciation for everything that they do to create a wonderful event for the benefit of the game."
It will be very interesting to see the reception Tiger will receive. As for me, I will still be rooting for Tiger on the golf course.

Great case of brotherly love
Here is a classic story of brotherly love between Detroit Red Wings Drew Miller and Buffalo Sabres Ryan Miller. Article courteously from the Detroit Free Press.

Rooney fires United back into first
Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney scored a pair of 2nd half goals, as Manchester United defeated Fulham, 3-0 at Craven Cottage. With the win, United vaults Chelsea and into first place in the English Premier League.
Rooney now has 32 goals on the season for United, leaving him 10 shy of Cristiano Ronaldo's team record of 42.

Reports are that the Cleveland Browns have traded former 1st round pick, Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos for FB Peyton Hillis and a 2011 draft pick. As a Broncos fan, I am unsure of how to feel about this trade. Considering, I have never liked Quinn, I do hope that he will be able to help the Broncos as they pursue an AFC West title.
Quinn, a 2007 first round pick of the Browns, is only 3-9 career as a starter. This could be a blessing as it appears that Quinn might need a change of scenery. Denver will hopefully be the place where he can build on his woeful starting resume.

Could Tiger Woods return be sooner rather than later?
There are conflicting reports out, but both say that Tiger Woods could be making his return in time for the Masters tournament, in mid April. We will know within the next week whether any of these are true. One report has Tiger playing in Arnold Palmer's tournament at Bay Hill, at the end of this month, and he would need to let the tournament know by next Friday the 19th if he is coming or not. Another report has him coming back for the Masters which is a month away.
Regardless of when he comes back, it will be good for not only the sport of golf, but for Tiger as well. Right now, Tiger needs the game of golf just as much as the game of golf needs Tiger. This is the only place where Tiger has truly had any type of control, and from what we have learned about Tiger, he really likes to have control. The golf course will be somewhat of a sanctuary for Tiger, as he tries to continue to get his life back. Also, it is something he has loved for 30+ years. The longer he stays away, the tougher life will get for him, and to be honest it may help his marriage if he can play golf and get some normalcy back in his life.
I, for one, am still a Tiger Woods fan and won't judge him based on mistakes he has made in his personal life. While I don't agree with the actions he has done, I know people make mistakes and that people can change their ways. I look forward to watching the so called "new Tiger" and watching him start down his new path. I am rooting for Tiger more now to not only win on the golf course, but to win in the game of life!

Well that just chaps my rear end
Well that was another frustrating ending to a UC Big East tournament basketball game. Once again the Cats were able to rebound from an early first half deficit. After trailing 18-4, to the Bob Huggins led West Virginia Mountaineers, UC was able to claw back.
Once again, UC was Gerry McNamara'd, this time by WVU star, DeSean Butler. The Cats were able to defend extremely well, causing a shot clock violation on WVU with :06 remaining. Cincinnati called a timeout to set up a play. After they were unable to inbound the ball, Cronin called another timeout.
The ball was inbounded to sophomore Dion Dixon who decided it was better to dribble the ball off his knee instead of the court, losing the ball out of bounds with :03 remaining in the game.
Huggins responded by calling WVU final timeout to create an inbound play. The ball was inbounded to DeSean Butler who was guarded by Lance Stephenson. Butler, with a hand in his face, was able to fire up a shot, banking it in at the final buzzer to dash the NCAA Tournament hopes of the Bearcats.
With the loss, Cincinnati will surely be headed to the NIT. Currently, the Cats are projected as a #3 seed in the NIT Tournament. Stay tuned as we see where the Cats are headed for the post season.

Follow up: Bryant is the Man!
A follow up on Chris's post. The Bengals have signed Antonio Bryant to a 4 year 28 million dollar deal. Bryant, who is 29, missed three games last year with a knee injury. This signing all but nixes the idea of having Terrel Owens in the Bengals stripes next year. The next question is how will Chad Ochocinco react? He is, after all, the one who was really pushing hard for T.O. to be in Cincy as they are close friends. Long term though this deal does make the Bengals a better team. Bryant is a better player at this point in their careers than T.O. and will give a viable #2 option for Carson Palmer and should free up Ocho to make more big plays. Something the Bengals lacked last year with Chris Henry's injury and the disappearance act from recently departed WR Laverneous Coles.
So Chad may be upset for now, but in the end the Bengals made the right move, for once. Lets just hope this signing turns out better than the Coles debacle from a year ago.

Report: Bryant is the man
Early reports state the Bengals have decided to sign Free Agent WR Antonio Bryant. The terms of the deal haven't been disclosed, but the deal is believed to be for 4 years. If the reports are true, it means that T.O. will not be a Bengal.
Bracketology for March 10th: Post season is here!
Well folks its time for Bracketology post season edition. We are two weeks away from selection Sunday and things will be more defined after this weekend.
For a recap on how the Pairwise works click here.
A little recap here:
16 teams get into the tournament
Their are 6 conferences all get an automatic bid
1 seeds will be placed to their closest regional possible
Flights for 1 seeds will be avoided if possible
There can not be interconference matchups in the first round unless a league has more than 5 teams.
Ok with those basics out of the way, lets see where are rankings are today.
Rk Team
1 Denver
2 Miami
3 Wisconsin
4 Boston College
5 North Dakota
6 Bemidji State
7 Alaska
8 St. Cloud State
9 Yale
10 New Hampshire
11 Cornell
12 Michigan State
13 Ferris State
14 Northern Michigan
15 Minnesota-Duluth
16 Nebraska-Omaha
17 Vermont
18 Mass.-Lowell
19 Massachusetts
20 Maine
21 Colorado College
22 Union
23 Boston University
24 Minnesota
25 Michigan
So the following teams won the regular season titles so we will consider them the auto bids for these purposes. They are as follows:
CCHA: Miami
WCHA: Denver
Hockey East: New Hampshire
ECAC: Yale
Atlantic Hockey: RIT
CHA: Bemidji St.
Since RIT is not in the top 16 they will be slotted as the 16th seed. So following the 1 vs 16 matchup our brackets look like this.
St. Paul, MN- West Regional
1. Denver v 4. RIT
2. St. Cloud State v 3. Yale
Ft. Wayne, IN- Midwest Regional
1. Miami v 4. Minnesota-Duluth
2. Alaska v 3. New Hampshire
Albany, NY- East Regional
1. Wisconsin v 4. Northern Michigan
2. Cornell v 3. Bemidji St.
Worcester, Mass- Northeast Regional
1. Boston College v 4. Ferris St.
2. North Dakota v 3. Michigan St.
First things we need to look at is are there any inter conference matchups? Answer is No. Second thing to look at is can we avoid a flight for a 1 seed and that answer is yes. There for we will switch the West bracket and the East bracket. Now the third and final question is how does our attendance look? With Miami in Ft. Wayne we are great there, Boston College in Mass looks great. Wisconsin and Bemidji in St. Paul looks good, and Yale and RIT in Albany looks good. So our final bracket looks like this:
Albany, NY- East Regional
1. Denver v 4. RIT
2. St. Cloud State v 3. Yale
Ft. Wayne, IN- Midwest Regional
1. Miami v 4. Minnesota-Duluth
2. Alaska v 3. New Hampshire

Chelios making his return the the NHL.
A story broke late last night that Chris Chelios was called up by the Atlanta Thrashers. A team who's AHL affiliate is the Chicago Wolves where Chelios has been playing all year. Chelios is 48 yrs old and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. maybe he is holding out for his son to make it who is currently a freshman at Michigan St. University so he can play with him!
Derek Anderson is my new favorite quarterback
Derek Anderson has just become my new favorite NFL quarterback. After being cut by the Cleveland Browns, Anderson vented his frustration to a local newspaper by saying, "The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner. I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them."
I love Derek Anderson. He said exactly what every NFL fan thinks about Cleveland. Thank you Derek.

Manchester United v AC Milan preview
For the first time since his 2003 departure, AC Milan midfielder, David Beckham makes his return to Old Trafford. The United fans should be open and welcome to Beckham's return and give him a rousing ovation.
The Rossoneri will have a lot to overcome, if they want to move to the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, most notably a 3-2 deficit. United registered their first ever win at the San Siro, with goals from Scholes and Rooney (2), leaving Milan with a huge task at Old Trafford today.
With a healthy Rooney for United, I don't foresee Milan being able to score 2 goals in a victory. Once again, Manchester United will move on to the quarterfinals.

NHL must address hits to the head
Once again, the ugly and dirty side of hockey appeared during a game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. As we all know, hockey is a physical game, but by no means, is there room for dirty hits in the game.
Penguins forward Matt Cooke raised the issue of hits to the head with his actions against Bruins forward Marc Savard. There is a need for hitting in hockey, but there is certainly no need for dirty hits. Matt Cooke is known around the league for being a dirty player. He has already been accused of biting, along with other questionable hits.
The topic of hits to head is number one topic during the GM Meetings in Boca Raton, that started today. The league must do something to put an end to these kind of hits before someone is seriously injured. Savard was lucky to only escape with a Grade 2 concussion.
The hardest part is it is all subjective. It is not black and white like high sticking or tripping. There is way too much gray area. That is why the league must figure out language that is black and white, clear cut, so every player in the league knows what is right and wrong.

Bengals WR choices now down to three
From Adam Shefter, ESPN on Twitter
Free agent WR Antonio Bryant is headed to Cincinnati for a visit tonight and tomorrow. He could be the Bengals WR.
Apart from Antonio Bryant, the Bengals are interested in Terrell Owens and Brandon Marshall.

The Cuban Missile dazzles in debut
Reds pitching phenom Aroldis Chapman, aka "The Cuban Missile" was dealin' today in his Spring Training debut against the Kansas City Royals.
The media was out in force in Goodyear today to watch Chapman. The world was curious to witness the debut of the newest pitching phenom in MLB. Chapman certainly did not disappoint.
Chapman was clocked at 102 mph by some scouts radar guns. Chapman faced 7 batters, threw 26 pitches, 15 for strikes. He struck out 3 batters, two of those were major league starters. He also gave up 1 hit and walked another.
If Chapman continues to pitch this way, there is no way the Reds do not take him with them when they head back to Cincinnati. If that is the case, could Chapman be making his debut as the Reds 5th starter, April 10, against the Cubs?

Oh Big Ben, what were you thinking!
Ok so I'm not going to get on here and beat a man while he's down but I mean seriously Ben. For those who aren't aware Ben Rothlesberger, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been accused of sexual assault. The accusation comes from a woman who attends Georgia college & State University. Ben was at a night club with his entourage Friday night when the alleged assault occurred. The woman in question reported it immediately which adds some legitimacy in peoples minds. However we all must reserve judgement because at this point these are still only allegations.
The problem for me is the fact that Ben is 28 yrs old. The woman in question is 20 yrs old. He is a high profile NFL quarterback on one of the best franchises in the country. So the question rises on why Ben is hanging out on college campuses and going to college bars. Yes he comes from small town Findlay, Ohio and yes he went to college in a college town at Miami University but at some point you need to grow up a little.
A few months back a Civil law suit was filed against Ben by a woman in Reno, NV claiming he sexual assaulted her while he was attending a charity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe. And as many remember a little over two years ago when Ben nearly died due to a motorcycle accident where he wasn't wearing a helmet. The accident is what it is and thankfully he has been able to fully recover. However the first sexual assault accusation is disturbing there were never any criminal charges filed. But still with that close call you would think you would put yourself in a better situation than he did on Friday.
The problem here lies with Ben's judgement of late. I have met Ben a couple times while he was at Miami and he couldn't of been a nicer guy. But sometimes nice guy's are naive. Now being naive is never an excuse but someone that is close to him needs to step in here. Someone needs to sit him down and tell him that he needs to think before doing certain things. At his age with his stature in American society he needs to know there are certain places where a person of his stature can only have bad things happen. Being at a night club on a college campus after midnight is definitely not a place he needs to be.
So for Ben's sake I hope these accusations turn out to be false because I genuinely like him as a person, even though he does play for the Steelers. But I will end with this, lets all reserve our judgement of him until the investigation is completed and the facts are known.

Congrats to the Indiana Air Search and Rescue
This is a big shout out to my family/friends who are part of the Indiana Air Search and Rescue. There were many hours/years of hard work to get the Huey up and running. I am so proud of everyone who was part of that project. The following was sent from the Director of the Indiana Air Search and Rescue, Brian Shera:
This message is going to a lot of people who are family, friends and Vietnam War Veterans (THANKS for your service) who have been following the progress of the restoration of our Huey helicopter.
Indiana Air Search And Rescue (IASAR) started a restoration a little over 5 years ago on a Huey helicopter with the tail number of 68-16563. The restoration process was a long one but the good thing is, this restoration was done completely on DONATIONS so IASAR owes no one!
Today, Saturday March 6th was a great day because this day saw the very first flight of our Huey!! The weather here in Indianapolis was fantastic as it was sunny and the temp was about 51 degrees so it was a great day for flying!
In front of about 50-60 people, 563 gently lifted off and slowly went out to the runway and then took off into the blue sky!! I'm sending this video out to everyone who was interested in what we are doing and who have followed along with us and even donated money to us (THANK YOU!!).
THANK YOU again to all who have followed our progress and I hope you enjoy the video!!

Bracketology: March 3rd!
Sorry folks for dropping the ball on bracketology but conference playoffs start this weekend and their has been a lot of movement. To recape you can read here on how the pairwise works.
A couple things to refresh our memories is that their are 16 teams in the tournament and all 6 conferences get automatic bids, leaving us with 10 at large bids. The committee also likes to avoid inter-conference matchups in the first round and also tries to eliminate flights for #1 seeds.
With that said here is how our rankings look:
1 Denver
2 Miami
3 Wisconsin
4 St. Cloud State
5 Bemidji State
6 Boston College
7 North Dakota
8 Yale
9 Alaska
10 New Hampshire
11 Cornell
12 Michigan State
13 Vermont
14 Minnesota-Duluth
15 Ferris State
16 Northern Michigan
17 Maine
18 Nebraska-Omaha
19 Union
20 Colorado College
21 Northeastern
22 Mass.-Lowell
23 Boston University
24 Minnesota
25 Michigan
Our current conference leaders/champions are as follows.
CCHA- Miami
ECAC- Yale
WCHA- Denver
Atlantic hockey- RIT
CHA- Bemidji st.
Hockey East- UNH
Since RIT isn't in the top 16 they will occupie the 16th spot and we will take the top 15 in their order.
With that said our regionals look like this:
Ft. Wayne- Midwest Regional
1. Miami v 4. Ferris st.
2. North Dakota v 3. Cornell
St. Paul- West Regional
1. Denver v 4. RIT
2. Yale v 3. Michigan St.
Worcester- Northeast Regional
1. Wisconsin v 4. Minnesota-Duluth
2. Boston College v 3. New Hampshier
Albany- East Regional
1. St. Cloud State v 4. Vermont
2. Bemidji St. v 3 Alaska
Now first things first is do we have inter conference matchups and the answer is yes. We have Miami v Ferris, Wisconsin v UMD, and BC v UNH. So we need to move those around. Only thing we can do is switch Ferris St. with Minnesota-Duluth so we will do that. We can also switch New Hampshier and Michigan st.
So our new bracket looks like this:
Ft. Wayne- Midwest Regional
1. Miami v 4. Minnesota-Duluth
2. North Dakota v 3. Cornell
St. Paul- West Regional
1. Denver v 4. RIT
2. Yale v 3. New Hampshier
Worcester- Northeast Regional
1. Wisconsin v 4. Ferris St.
2. Boston College v 3. Michigan St.
Albany- East Regional
1. St. Cloud State v 4. Vermont
2. Bemidji St. v 3 Alaska
Now we need to look at eliminating the flights for our #1 seeds. No matter where Denver goes they will have to fly so we will move their pod with St. Cloud state and the East Regional. We also have too look at attendance issues and we wont have any with Miami in Ft. wayne and North Dakota there as well. In the west we will have Bemidji and SCSU so that looks fantastic. In the northeast we look great with Boston College there and in the East with UNH and Yale we look great.
So our final bracket looks like this:
Ft. Wayne- Midwest Regional
1. Miami v 4. Minnesota-Duluth
2. North Dakota v 3. Cornell
Albany- East Regional
1. Denver v 4. RIT
2. Yale v 3. New Hampshier
Worcester- Northeast Regional
1. Wisconsin v 4. Ferris St.
2. Boston College v 3. Michigan St.
St. Paul- West Regional
1. St. Cloud State v 4. Vermont
2. Bemidji St. v 3 Alaska
So thats where I will hang my hat this week. Also check out College Hockey News to play their simulation game call "you are the committee".

It's now or never for the NHL and NBC!
Well if you didn't watch the USA v Canada gold medal hockey game in the olympics you were in the minority. The gold medal game drew a 17 + rating on NBC. What does this mean? It means that 17 million tv's were on watching the game not including bar's or restaurants. This is the third highest rating in only behind the NCAA football national championship game and the Super Bowl.
With that type of interest for the gold medal game and the type of game that was played it sets up perfectly for the NHL to take advantage and elevate the interest in their game. One place it can do that is on NBC who was the beneficiary of the coverage of the olympics and saw first hand the excitement around the game. Both of these entity's need to capitalize for their own reasons. The NHL has taken a huge leap backwards since the strike a few years back and has tried to recover but has yet to do so. With the majority of their games, nationally, on versus ( a channel a lot of people don't get or know about ), the game has had a hard time trying to grow again. But with all of the young talented american players and the intensity of that gold medal game the interest in the sport seems to be at its highest, its now or never.
NBC currently is the only major netword that broadcasts NHL games and that is on their game of the week broadcast on sunday afternoons. Since they did broadcast the olympics and were the network that received that great rating they need to promote this sport a little more. Use those familiar names that people became acustome too during the olympics and you could see a hike in the ratings for regular season NHL games.
These last few months of the NHL regular season and the playoffs is the final chance for the NHL to get back to where it was in the 90's. They haven't shown a great promice to be able to promote themselves but if they can't capitalize on this opportunity that was handed to them by these great olympics than the game we love could be in big big trouble. I hope Gary Bettman and his staff see this opportunity and jump on it properly because it would be a real shame if the game doesn't grow. Not to mention if the game doesn't see a hike it could be the last we see of professional hockey players in the olympics and that would be the worst thing possible.
