Well that was another frustrating ending to a UC Big East tournament basketball game. Once again the Cats were able to rebound from an early first half deficit. After trailing 18-4, to the Bob Huggins led West Virginia Mountaineers, UC was able to claw back.
Once again, UC was Gerry McNamara'd, this time by WVU star, DeSean Butler. The Cats were able to defend extremely well, causing a shot clock violation on WVU with :06 remaining. Cincinnati called a timeout to set up a play. After they were unable to inbound the ball, Cronin called another timeout.
The ball was inbounded to sophomore Dion Dixon who decided it was better to dribble the ball off his knee instead of the court, losing the ball out of bounds with :03 remaining in the game.
Huggins responded by calling WVU final timeout to create an inbound play. The ball was inbounded to DeSean Butler who was guarded by Lance Stephenson. Butler, with a hand in his face, was able to fire up a shot, banking it in at the final buzzer to dash the NCAA Tournament hopes of the Bearcats.
With the loss, Cincinnati will surely be headed to the NIT. Currently, the Cats are projected as a #3 seed in the NIT Tournament. Stay tuned as we see where the Cats are headed for the post season.
