The phenomenon known as "global warming" has struck again. Officials for the Winter Olympics had to drop 2 days of snowboarding/freestyle skiing practice because the weather has been a little warm at Cypress Mountain. It has been so warm that officials have had to ship snow in to the mountain to help preserve the halfpipe and other areas of competition.
Cypress Mountain is the location for the snowboarding & freestyle skiing competitions. Athletes have lost those two days of practice as dump trucks and helicopters have dumped the snow on the mountain. The alpine skiing location in Whistler is ok.
Athletes were able to practice earlier today and said the conditions were great. Olympic officials remain positive as the weather looks to be getting colder. One of the last resorts, if the weather doesn't cooperate, was to use metal and plywood to help shape the halfpipe. The company that was overseeing the halfpipe in Aspen, for the X Games, could help with the construction and shaping of the pipe.
