The Cincinnati Bearcats dropped a crucial game, to South Florida 65-57, in regards to their NCAA tournament hopes. Out of their final six games, this was one that they had to win. The loss drops UC to 15-10 overall and 6-7 in the Big East.
The Bearcats couldn't have picked a worse time to come out and play like a steaming pile of cow dung. Cincinnati had 16 turnovers and only a whopping five assists. With around six minutes remaining, the Bearcats trailed 50-33. How do you manage to only have 33 points, with six minutes to go, to the University of South Florida? If you were stupid or drunk enough to watch the entire game, you knew this game was never close.
It is going to take a miracle for this basketball team to make the big dance now. Once again after a strong start, Mick Cronin's Bearcats falter down the stretch and will miss out on the NCAA tournament.
Cincinnati shot 39% from the field and 27% beyond the arc. Oh and not to mention they shot an awesome 61% on free throws. Well with stats like that, this basketball team couldn't beat the Mason Third Grade Basketball team.
Of course, the schedule doesn't get any easier. Here is a look at the Bearcats remaining schedule:
Feb 21 Marquette (16-8 59 RPI)
Feb 24 DePaul (8-17 183 RPI)
Feb 27 @ West Virginia (19-5 5 RPI)
Mar 2 Villanova (22-3 6 RPI)
Mar 6 @ Georgetown (18-6 8 RPI)
To have a chance in hell to make the tournament, UC would have to go 4-1 during the remainder of the schedule, and win a game or two in the Big East tournament. Since I'm a realist, that my friends, isn't happening. From the Hall of Famer, Marty Brennaman, "How we lookin?.....not good"
