Olympic hockey preview

These 2010 Olympic games have the opportunity to produce the best Olympic hockey games we have ever seen. In honor of the Men's hockey starting today, I am posting my prediction for the Olympic hockey results. With my prediction, I feel we will be seeing what every hockey fan wants to see: Sidney Crosby v Alexander Ovechkin for the Gold.

Gold Medal: Canada

Brief: There are a couple of factors in me choosing the Canadians to win the gold. First, they are the deepest team in this years tournament. Second, home ice advantage. With Sidney Crosby being passed up for the 2006 team, he is hungry to add to his young, but already amazing legacy. Also, the Canadians were flat embarrassed in Torino in 2006, finishing 7th. Look for the Canadians to bring home Olympic Gold in Vancouver.

Silver Medal: Russia

Brief: Russia was picked by many to win the Gold this year. They will definitely be competing for the Gold, but they will fall just short. Anytime you have a lineup that contains Ovechkin, Kovalchuk & Datsyuk, you have a very solid team. The issues with this team are goaltending and defense. That is why they will fall just short of Canada.

Bronze Medal: United States

Brief: I am stepping out on a limb on this pick. The United States is bringing a very young and inexperienced team to Vancouver. Thats why this could go one of two ways for the United States. They could either medal, or fall flat on their face. I think the United States will show better than the experts think this year. I think the youth on this team will carry them in the Bronze Medal Game versus the Swedes.

4th: Sweden

Brief: The defending Gold Medalists will have what it takes to repeat, but they will fall short of a medal this year. The top four teams all have what it takes to win the Gold.

5th: Finland

6th: Czech Republic

7th: Slovakia

8th: Switzerland

9th: Germany

10th: Belarus

11th: Latvia

12th: Norway
